Meet Charlie
Proven Fighter. Proven Results
Charles (Charlie) Ferraro is a dedicated public servant, former small business owner, and Grandmaster who has spent decades fighting for Connecticut families. After serving five terms in the Connecticut House of Representatives or the 117th District (West Haven, Orange, and Milford), he recently announced his candidacy for the Connecticut State Senate in the 33rd District, where he now resides in Clinton with his wife, Gerealyn.
In the House, Charlie rose to become the Republican leader on the Energy and Technology Committee, where he focused on energy affordability, often opposing measures that could raise rates for residents and businesses. In addition, Ferraro was proud to serve as the Republican leader on the Veterans' Affairs Committee, where he was a strong advocate for veterans and fought for funding for programs for the brave men and women who have served our country.
Early in his career, Ferraro served on this Public Safety & Security Committee championing legislation for first responders and worked to combat the opioid crisis. Furthermore, he was a member of the Human Services, Appropriations, and Banking committees.
Before entering politics, Charlie was a small-business owner who got fed up with the never ending tax and spend policies being passed in Hartford. As Owner, CEO, and Grandmaster, he achieved the rank of 10th Dan in Tang Soo Do and earned the title of Grandmaster in 1995, becoming head of the Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan style. He co-founded the Worldwide Tang Soo Do Family and he led the Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan Association overseeing over 100 dojangs in the U.S. and South America. Charlie organized countless charity events, kick-a-thons, food drives, and demonstrations benefiting causes like Meals on Wheels, breast cancer awareness, Columbus House, and Muscular Dystrophy.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology (with a minor in Chemistry) from Southern Connecticut State University in 1974 and pursued graduate studies in Fishery Biology at Murray State University.
After recently selling his karate academy and planning to retire, Charlie felt compelled to return to service. He cannot stand idly by while policies drive up electricity costs, erode local zoning control, and push families and businesses out of Connecticut. Now running for State Senate in the 33rd District, he is committed to lowering bills, protecting communities, reinstating fiscal discipline, and making our state a place where small businesses thrive and families can afford to stay and build their futures.
